"Beautillion gave me the chance to participate in both an old ritual and a new tradition..."

Beautillion gave me the chance to participate in both an old ritual and a new tradition. I knew that cotillions focusing on young African-American women had been going on in the Bay Area for a few decades, and even longer than that for white women, so I enjoyed being a part of a tradition that was just getting started - an event focusing on Black men.

I met new people and got to know others even better. I was able to pay tribute to my ancestors. Most of all, I was able to honor and show my appreciation for those who made it possible for me to be there.
