The Beautillion Program
The Beau Program Committee has exercised considerable thought, vision, and inspiration toward program
development in order to provide our young men with exceptional and added-value
opportunities. This extraordinary program has four pillars.
Rites of Passage
As a cultural and developmental process, whereby the young men examine its importance
and relevance. This curriculum is framed by three themes: Reasoning, Responsibility,
and Reciprocity and experienced through lecture, video, mentoring, thoughtful
and introspective discourse, and physical challenge.
Cultural Awareness
Many youth do not relate to the freedoms they enjoy today as those earned at the expense of earlier generations such as their grandparents and great-grandparents. Present day youth, coined the ‘hip-hop’ generation, embrace ‘freedom’ with nonchalance. The pioneers of the civil rights movement, who stood at the forefront of the struggles to gain freedom and equality, crossed multiple barriers within society. Our African-American youth cannot truly value their history and its application to their future, if they do not learn of it with ancestral accuracy and through primary sources. As Grass roots and boardroom relationships become more disparate between them, today’s youth become more central in closing the gap Leadership Development
Political partisanship is not what we espouse to deliver to the young men
of this program however we do elevate civic responsibility, and responsibility
to community as a tenet of our program. As future leaders our youth will
need to find support in their communities, gaining trust through their
actions and personal integrity. To this end their voices will not rise
above without the aggregate voices of the African American community and
ultimately the aggregate vote of the African American community to support
the causes that impact them.
Community Service Learning
Service opportunities are presented to the young men as learning opportunities. This way, the young men experience community service beyond an occurrence or event. It is taught for them to understand, and accept it as a way of life that promotes individual reflection and connection to community. Beautillion is the culmination of dedicated efforts and planning by the Beautillion committee of the San Francisco Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. |
